Green kyllinga, Kyllinga brevifolia, is a common weed of turfgrasses in the coastal plain of the southeastern United States (from Virginia to Texas) and in California.  It is a short, mat-forming sedge that inhabits moist areas, particularly in golf and sports turf, as well as occasionally lawns.  It spread by seed as well as the brownish rhizomes.  In the warm growing months it produces numerous globular heads.  Because green kyllinga is so dense, once it gets established it is one of the few weeds that can eliminate bermudagrass.  Two herbicides which have commonly been used to control green kyllinga (depending on the species of turf and the site) are Manage and Image.
